JAMAICA- CANNABIS DOs AND DONTs

Did you know that Cannabis in Jamaica is actually illegal, but possession of small amounts was reduced to a petty offense in 2015.

Cannabis is legal in Jamaica but the quality of Cannabis is not the same quality that we are used to in the United States. This is because most of the Cannabis grown in Jamaica is outdoors or on a farm. Jamaica has a hot and dry climate so the Cannabis tends to be more dry. If you have a medical card from the U.S. or a proper doctors note you can access medical Cannabis in Jamaica. There is limited access to medicinal marijuana without a medical card.

I can tell you from personal experience after staying in Jamaica. I arrived with 16 good friends for 7 days. The flower we acquired while there was so seedy and dry. We did not have access to medical grade until day 5. The level of hurt in everyone's eyes when they realized that they had been smoking jungle Cannabis for 5 days. Day 5, one of our friends had a buddy who lived in Jamaica and he also had a medical card! The last 2 days were the most relaxed and enjoyed by all.

We were introduced to Kaya Farms which is the dispensary in Jamaica. I did more research and found out that they have been around since 2018. They are the first Medical Cannabis brand from the Caribbean. They allow you to schedule an appointment with a doctor to get medical Cannabis. Even if you do not have a medical card from the U.S. Their focus is “ on the health and wellness tourism industry.”
