Traveling to Costa Rica during Covid

When you fly to Costa Rica during the time of Covid it can be difficult managing for your first time.

I wanted to share these things with you to help you prepare for travel to and from Costa Rica . My experiences are based on Liberia, Costa Rica Travel in November of 2021.

To enter Costa Rica:

You do NOT have to provide a negative Covid test to enter. You have to fill in a questionnaire on the website https://salud.go.cr/ and complete all of the questions that they ask. Once you complete them you receive a Health Pass with a QR code that shows that you are safe to enter.

REQUIREMENTS:

COMPLETE VACCINATION UPLOAD

INSURANCE POLICY FOR MEDICAL EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH COVID-19 (If you are not vaccinated)

The main questions are:

Have you traveled outside your country within the last 12 days?

Do you have Covid? Have you been in contact with someone who has Covid?

What is the address where you will be staying while in Costa Rica?

Flight Details?

This is an example of the webpage that will be displayed when you go to fill in your Health Pass.

Once you have completed your forms you will receive the confirmation (displayed below) . This will then prompt you to click a link that takes you to your QR Code.

Keep this QR Code as you need to show it at the airport in the United States before you are allowed to board, and in Costa Rica before you are allowed to enter.

When leaving Costa Rica it is important to make sure that you check in before you arrive at the airport. This is important as it will save you a lot of time when you wait in line at the airport.

If you are vaccinated make sure that you have your card or digital picture ready to show. Everyone has to present a Negative Covid Test that was taken within 72 hours of travel. If you cannot provide results you will have to take a rapid test at the airport before you are allowed to go to the counter to check in. They are extremely strict and require you to fill in 2-3 different forms before leaving, depending on the airline.

We flew Delta and they had 3 different QR codes that had to be scanned at the airport since we did not do the check in before we arrived at the airport.
