Traveling to Mexico During Covid

When you fly to Mexico during Covid, some things have stayed the same and some things have changed immensely. I wanted to share these things with you to help you prepare for travel to Mexico. My experiences are based on Cancun and Cozumel travel in 2020.

Immigration Form

Before you arrive in Mexico, no matter the airline, they will pass out these forms for you to fill in. You must fill in the form completely and correctly. I suggest filling it in before you arrive in Mexico as you can use the tray table to help you write. It can be rather difficult to try and fill it in while standing in line to go through immigration.

This form is IMPORTANT, make sure you keep it with your passport as you will need this form to leave Mexico as well. If you do lose the form it is a hassle and a fee of up to $70 is required for each lost form.

Planes are full

When I came to Cancun in July the border had only been re-opened for 2 days so the planes were empty and all flights had the middle seat empty. In Cancun the resorts, the shops and restaurants were all empty or closed. Now in December everything was open, packed, and the airlines removed the middle seat empty option to accommodate the large demand for the flights.

is an experienced transportation company in Mexico.

They are extremely professional and prompt and the only company I use to book airport transfers in Mexico. For 2 people round trip it was only $80 for our private vehicle. Make sure to download Whatsapp as they will contact you there with details. They let you know where to meet them and to avoid stopping to talk to any of the timeshare people who try and stop you once you make your way through the airport.

When leaving Mexico you must have your form handy. The form that you had when you originally entered the country but you must also now scan the QR Code they provide at the airport.

Once you scan the QR code it takes you to a survey that EVERYONE who leaves the country must fill out. It asks you questions about what cities you visited while in Mexico and the dates.

After you fill it in and submit, you will get your own QR Code to use. This displays your Name, Email, Phone Number as well as the airline, flight number and your seat assignment. This is a part of their tracing system that has helped to keep the Cancun area low in terms of Covid cases.
